The course focuses on using computers in map-making, map design, data structure, thematic mapping, and enhancement of communication and visualization. Topics covered include use of GPS for mapping, GPS tracking maps, 3-Dimension, new means of map communication such as on-line maps, mobile maps, animated maps, virtual reality, and multi-media. The course includes a laboratory portion that provides students with hands-on ArcGIS and 3D Analyst.
Course Learning Outcomes
1. Explain Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) principles and their roles in mapping
2. Differentiate between online mapping forms
3. Produce a map using hand-held GPS receiver
4. Create 3D, animated and multi-media maps to present geographical phenomena.
